Working principle of TFT-LCD
1、 What is TFT-LCD
TFT-LCD, also known as thin-film transistor liquid crystal display, belongs to active matrix liquid crystal display technology. LCD itself does not emit light, relying on backlight source+LCD electro-optic modulation+TFT independent pixel control, combined with color filters to achieve high-definition color image display, widely used in industrial control, medical, automotive, outdoor special display and other fields.
2、 Infrastructure
Composed of multiple layers of precision structures from top to bottom:
Top polarizer → color filter substrate → liquid crystal layer → TFT array substrate → bottom polarizer → LED backlight source
Backlight: Provides a uniform white surface light source, which is the basis for image illumination.
Polarizing film: filters natural light, forms fixed directional polarized light, and controls the on/off of light.
TFT array substrate: Each sub-pixel corresponds to a thin film transistor, which acts as an independent electronic switch to accurately control pixel voltage. It is paired with storage capacitors to maintain image stability, without crosstalk or flicker.
Liquid Crystal Layer: Micro sized liquid crystal molecules that deflect when powered on and reset when powered off, and change the transmittance of light by twisting the angle.
Color filter: composed of R/G/B red, green, and blue elementary sub pixels, presenting a full-color effect through color mixing.
3、 Core working principle
The backlight emits white light, which is then converted into linearly polarized light through a polarizer;
The driving circuit scans the TFT line by line to apply different voltages to the pixels;
Voltage changes the arrangement angle of liquid crystal molecules, regulates the strength of light transmission, and forms different gray levels;
Light passes through RGB color filters, mixing colors to generate rich colors;
Further output through polarizing film, quickly refresh frame by frame, utilizing human visual persistence to form static and dynamic images.
4、 Characteristics of mainstream panel types
TN: Low cost, fast response speed, average viewing angle.
IPS: 178 ° wide viewing angle, realistic color reproduction, no color change in the picture, commonly used in high-end industrial control.
VA: High contrast, pure black, strong layering.
5、 Product advantages
Clear picture quality, stable color, fast response speed, strong weather resistance at high and low temperatures, long lifespan, customizable outdoor waterproof, UV resistant, explosion-proof, high brightness special specifications, suitable for various industrial and special project scenarios.
